Interview:
Introduce yourself…
I’m Rio Deall I’m 22 years old I work as a Activity professional across primary schools in Aylesbury and live in Aylesbury.
How do you mentally and physically prepare for big matches?
I prepare for big games in the same way that I would prepare for any other game. I think it’s about keeping every consistent and not changing my ways just because of one game. Mentally I prepare by going over my clips from my previous game see where I did well and where I can improve and try to take it into the match. Physically the preparation starts the day before in the gym by getting on a spin bike for 15-20 mins followed by some stretching, mobility and core. The morning before the match I usually eat breakfast which is scrambled eggs on toast then I head to the gym to do another 10 mins on the bike and stretching. 2 an half hours before kick off is my pre match which is fruit, yogurt, granola and a coffee. That’s how I would prepare for every game.
Are there any particular players, past or present, who have influenced your style of play or whom you look up to in your positions?
Players that have influenced my style of play is definitely Marcus Rashford. I like the way he is quick, powerful and direct. I’ve watched videos on him on how he runs in behind and takes players on 1v1 and try to take them bits from his game into my game. Players that I look up to in my position are Marcus Rashford as I mentioned before and a young Ronaldo at Manchester United.
Rio, outside of football, what activities or hobbies do you engage in to unwind and maintain a balanced lifestyle?
Activities that I do outside football, recently I have just started getting into golf even though I’m not great at it, it’s good to take your mind off football and have some fun. Spending time with my family and friends is also important because sometimes I don’t get a lot of it so it’s nice just to have their company.
