Interview:
Introduce yourself…
I’m Darren Jamieson, 34 and play for stenhousemuir in SPFL League One in Scotland.
What was it like being scouted by Rangers at a young age?
It was a surreal moment for me. I felt really privileged to be picked for such a reputable team and youth set up, it came about because we beat the rangers youth team 7-3. I must have done enough in the game to get a trial and it went from there.
How did it feel making your first-team debut for Livingston in 2010?
I was 17, very young and naive so I honestly didn’t feel the pressure of playing first team at the time. We played Albion Rovers in a 2-0 win. My debut was also the first time 4 brothers all played together in the same team! A bit of history for my first game!
You established yourself as Livingston’s number one goalkeeper and had a great first season, including saving five penalties. What do you think contributed to your success that year?
I think we had a great group of boys, the changing room was fantastic. Boys liked to socialize outside of football and it definitely showed on the pitch. The penalty saves were all really good for me personally but the team was always together.
What did it mean to you to win both the Supporters’ Young Player and Player of the Year awards?
It meant a lot to receive 1 personal accolade but to get 2 was a great feeling. To know that the supporters like the way you perform on the pitch is half the battle in being a footballer, the other half is impressing the manager.
You were sent on loan to Bo’ness United in 2016. How did that experience impact your career?
Strangely enough I went down the leagues and got back to enjoying football, it was a difficult time for me personally at that point, I’d lost a baby, fell out of love for the game and just didn’t smile all that often. Going down to boness brought that spark back! I wanted to show everyone I was good enough to play and off the back of the 5/6 weeks I had a boness I got a move to the Premiership. I must have done something right.
In the 2018-19 season, you won promotion to the Championship with Arbroath FC. How special was that season for you?
The season I had with Arbroath was probably the best in my career. It got me back playing first team football, it was the first time I was in a real battle for a title and then the conditions playing a gayfield are some of the hardest you are ever likely to face. I once kicked a ball from the penalty spot and it went for a Corner.
You played a crucial role in Kelty Hearts’ rise through the leagues. What do you think made that team so successful?
The team had incredible players. We had a right good philosophy on how to play football with the 2 managers that came in. Barry Ferguson took me to the club and was first class, I really enjoyed my time with him. Then kevin Thomson came in and showed real class and dicorum. He made us really hard to beat because we were so good at keeping the ball off the other teams. This included a giant killing against St Johnstone in the Scottish cup, we won 1-0 aet.
Winning Scottish League Two again with Stenhousemuir FC and being named in the PFA Scotland League Two Team of the Year—what do these achievements mean to you?
Again they are very special, personal accolades and to be acknowledged by your fellow players as a good player is probably the best compliment you could ask for.

Since October 2024, you started developing and selling your own beautiful goalkeeper gloves, with the name Djgk_official. What are the company’s biggest goals for the next year? And is this the only thing you want to concern yourself with when your contract at Stenhousemuir FC expires?
We just have big ambitions. My brother is second to none with the business and our goals and vision for the future. He drives the company forward, I’m just along for the ride haha! We have goals like sell 500 pairs of gloves. It sounds crazy but we have to aim big. Aim for the sky. If we fall short we will try again next season. We just want to provide the best gloves we possibly can. Constantly working with the suppliers to improve the glove and make it more special every single time we produce one. Then get the gloves out there for people to try them! Infact if you’ve read this whole interview as a thank you use the code MTF90 to get a special 15 percent off the gloves!
