INTERVIEW
Introduce yourself…
I am Josh Carson I’m 16 and play for Hamilton accies.
How important is football for you?
Football to me is really important it’s all I’ve ever been interested in and I’ve always played.
Describe your playing style—what kind of midfielder are you, and who do you try to model your game after?
As a midfielder I think I’m quite creative and can make things happen close to goal and I can promise hard work off the ball.
Which aspects of your game are you currently working hardest to improve?
I think as a midfielder something I have been improving on is getting sharper over 5 and 10 yards as it’s so important to pick up second balls and get close to people.
Can you tell us how your journey with football began—and what led you to Hamilton Academical?
I started kicking a ball at a local team called Drumchapel United playing with friends from there lockdown happened and didn’t play for ages after lockdown improved a lot and moved onto rangers I was there for about 3 years until I moved to Hamilton 2 years ago.
What’s special about the environment at Hamilton Academical’s academy?
Hamilton is a great place with great coaches and brilliant teammates I’ve learned a lot being in there and still learning more to this day.
What does a typical week look like for you at the academy in terms of training, school, and recovery?
So a week for me is just in most mornings training and a game or 2 in a week as I left school a year ago now.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far in your development as a midfielder?
I went through a rough time last year as I was carrying a bit of weight and wasn’t really playing at all for a few months but now that it’s all gone I feel a lot better and fitter it was a great learning curve even though it was so difficult at the time.
What was going through your mind when you stepped onto the pitch for the first time in a senior Hamilton shirt?
When I found out I’d be playing with the first team to be honest it was a wee bit of shock when I was there I didn’t expect to get on but when I got the shout that I’m going on words can’t describe how good it felt but it’s only the start.
Now that you’ve had a taste of first-team football, what are your next goals for the season?
My goals for the season would be to keep pushing first team football and improve my game day by day and maybe add a few more goals in for this year.
