🎙️ INTERVIEW
Introduce yourself…
Hi I’m Stephen Walsh, 35 years old and from Galway.
How would you describe your style as a centre-forward? What are your key strengths?
Physical good in the air running.
You played youth football for Galway Hibernians AFC. What are your memories from that time?
I have some great memories playing for Hibs made some great friends that I still have today I’m currently managing the senior team there.
How did your first move to Galway United FC come about? What was going through your head when you signed?
It was actually playing for Hibs against NUIG there manager Gareth Gorman was assistant at Galway United and it all stemmed from there.
In 2012 you had your first loan spell at Mervue United AFC after your first time with Galway United FC. What motivated that move?
Had great two seasons with Mervue my last season there we lost play-off final to Longford if we had of won we would’ve made history for the club bringing them to the premier division.
You had short spells at Longford Town FC and Athlone Town FC in 2017. In what ways did these experiences away from Galway help you grow (tactically, mentally, or personally)?
They were good experiences to be fair and two great clubs.
How did that period influence your decision to return to Galway United FC in 2021?
I was back playing local with Hibs an John rang me one evening an asked would I be interested in coming back in an as they say the rest is history.
You’ve re-signed with Galway United FC multiple times: 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. What makes United home for you?
The fans are incredible no better place when EDP is rocking.

What motivates you now, especially as a veteran player, to keep pushing yourself?
Just the love of the game really I’m always in competition with myself trying to improve every day that’s the goal.
What advice would you give to young players in Galway (or Ireland more broadly) who are trying to make it in professional football?
Work hard never give up 🦅.
