Introduce yourself…

I’m Caley Gibb a full back currently for Hibernian Women playing in the SWPL.

You’ve played in several positions. How has that versatility helped you, and is there a position you now think you’re strongest or most comfortable in? 

I think playing in so many positions has definitely helped me to understand the game a bit more and understanding what other players around me want when delivering a ball into the box or playing a pass. It allows me to be able to fit into lots of formations and can also mean if we have injuries then I am able to adapt into another position to do the best for the team.

You made your senior debut for Hibs at just 15 years old. Looking back, what do you remember most about that moment?

I remember talking to my mum in the car on the way to the game and telling her I wasn’t going to get my hopes up and I didn’t expect to get on. When Grant said my name and told me to go warm up I was so excited. My friends and family had come to watch in case so I was so proud and grateful. It feels like a life time ago now but it was such an amazing day and integral part in my career.

After five years with Spartans and a season with Partick Thistle, what did you learn about yourself as a player and as a person?

I think playing at both these clubs taught me so much. Most importantly that you get nowhere without hard work and dedication. I think both clubs taught me that even in the tough times it is all worth it, missing nights out with friends or key family events to train might seem tough at the time but looking at where all that has got me now it was all worth it. Spartans definitely taught me how to be myself and build relationships with people and that helped me going into my time at Thistle.

Your loan return to Hibs in 2025 was brief but hugely impactful. What clicked so quickly for you in that spell?

I knew coming on loan to Hibs was going to be a completely new experience and a challenge that could have gone either way for me. This was an opportunity that I had worked for my whole life and I knew that if I put my all into it that there was a chance it could work out for me. Obviously I knew it might not have worked out for me and I had to accept that and be ready to deal with that if that happened but I feel I took my chances that I got and I got the reward this season.

Was there a specific moment during the loan where you thought, “I really want to stay here permanently”?

I think for me a moment I would say the derby game. My first start and a good win for the team was when I truly realised full time football and full time football at Hibs was what I wanted. It was a good day and the fans really supported me throughout.

You’ve represented Scotland at U19 level. How did wearing the national shirt shape your confidence and ambitions?

Wearing the Scotland shirt was definitely up there for my top moments in my career. It was an honour to represent my country and to do it alongside some of my best friends and my family in the stand was unreal. Again this was something u dream of as a kid so to say I’ve done it is surreal.

Do you still have aspirations to break into the senior national team setup?

Yeah I’ve set myself some targets for this season and to be back in the national team set up is involved in the targets. I want to be included in the 23s squad. I think it would really top off my dream year. It’s a squad filled with talent so I know it’s not going to be easy but I’m willing to work hard.

What motivates you the most day to day as a professional – is it competition, improvement, winning titles, or something else?

My family motivate me more than anything. The amount of support I get from my mum and dad along with my brothers is crazy. My gran and grandad come along to my games while the rest of my family watch on the tv. We lost my Gran last year and she was my biggest fan she would of been incredible proud to have seen me playing professional football, she would of been front row cheering me on, phoning me after telling me I played well and telling me I should be scoring more goals. Every time I step on that pitch now I do it for her! I right her name on my wrist before every game so I know she’s there when I need her.

What are your short-term goals for this season (both personally and with Hibernian)?

I have a few goals for this year that I’m working towards. Firstly I want to continue to learn and develop, I have great team mates who are constantly teaching me things and I’m really trying to take it on board. I want to continue to work hard and get game time, and try to contribute some more goals and assist to my game. I also want to try get back into the national team set up and really show the hard work that I have been putting in. Most importantly I want to do my best for this club, they have really taken a chance on me last season so I owe it to them and the fans to give them my all throughout the season.
