🎙️ INTERVIEW
Introduce yourself…
My name is Daniel Finlayson I’m 24 and a current professional in the SPFL.
Many fans describe you as a hardworking, reliable defender—how would you describe your own playing style?
Yes many fans would probably say that I’m a hard working reliable defender and I would probably say the same thing. I love the defending side of the game and it’s a dying breed. I think as a defender you want to be reliable and consistent as possible. I would like to think that I have an attacking side to my game and I’m working on being more dangerous in the opposition box.
You came through the youth system at Rangers—what were the biggest lessons you took from that environment?
I spent 10 years or so at Rangers and was a great place to learn my trade. It is such a big club and having the expectation to win every game was the biggest thing I have learned and it’s something I have taken with me my full career.
Your loan move from Rangers to Orange County in the US was a big change, both culturally and football-wise — how did you find the adjustment on and off the pitch?
The move to Orange County was a strange one and came out of nowhere really. I was only 19 and was so excited. I would recommend it to any player as culturally it was so different and such a great place to live. It was also my first taste of men’s football and a pretty cool place to start my senior career.
