Introduce yourself…
I’m 25 years old and currently playing for Bedford Town. I was born in Northampton, not too far away from Bedford, and spent 4 years at University in the US.
Who were your football role models growing up—and what qualities did you try to emulate?
I was/still am a big Liverpool fan so growing up I think I’d have to say Steven Gerrard was the one that you wanted to be. Just everything about the way he played and wanted to win everything in a game.
How do you balance physical conditioning with mental and tactical preparation for matches?
The gaffer at Bedford keeps us all fit so we don’t have to worry too much about that. Outside of football I try and go gym as much as I can but when you’re also working and doing other things finding the time can sometimes be difficult. I don’t really think about too much to do with tactics or mental preparation really anymore, I like just knowing what I need to do to help the team and that’s enough information for me to be able to play.
How would teammates describe your influence on the pitch and in the dressing room?
I think they’d say I’m quite a calm character, definitely not one of the loudest ones we have but I think I try and give out useful information instead of screaming and shouting. In the dressing room, I try and just be someone that gets on with the lads, try my best to have a laugh and a joke as much as possible and to have a beer after training or games because at the end of the day we all wanna have fun and that’s a big part of it.
