Introduce yourself…

Lexus Beeden, 25 year old from South East London British Caribbean a man who loves God and wants to glorify Him through football.

Can you describe your playing style and what makes you a unique back?

I am a front foot aggressive defender, who enjoys defending 1v1 duels I also like to get on the ball make things happen whether that’s stringing passes or carrying the ball myself, I think my calmness and composure in all situations make me very unique and my ability to read the game.

Let’s go back to your early days at Tooting & Mitcham—what do you remember most about playing non-league football at that age?

I literally was just playing football because I enjoyed it, I had no ulterior motive or aspiration I just wanted to play the game I love with my friends.

How did the move to Reading U23 come about? Did you have trials elsewhere, or was Reading always the main option?

I’d finished the season and heard there were a number of clubs interested and Reading just happened to be the one I managed to go to on trial first and the process was so quick I didn’t get a chance to go anywhere else I trained for a week and they liked me so I was offered a pro.

What was the biggest culture shock moving from a non-league club to a Category One academy environment like Reading?

The professionalism, the quality and standard of players you’re training with day in day out and the facilities, the details and things put in place to give you the best chance possible to progress.

Your journey has taken you through Welling, Darlington, Herne Bay, Sevenoaks, Carshalton and Slough, before Farnborough and now Maidstone. How have these varied experiences shaped you as a centre-back?

I needed to learn how to be a man I had the talent but I still played like a kid, my experience at these clubs shaped me mentally and helped me to adjust to the reality of what football really is.

After a “short but sweet” time at Slough, which included some memorable goals, what motivated you to seek the next challenge at Maidstone?

The manager, we aligned in beliefs and ambition of what I want to do with my career and how we could both help each other achieve great things, the club is a massive club, the opportunity to play for something and also play in front of such a massive and amazing fan base.

What influenced your decision to join Maidstone United for the 2025/26 National League South campaign?

The challenge of competing in such a tough league, being back in a full time environment I feel that’s what I need to develop and kick on, the manager once again and the coaching team and most importantly the fans, you don’t realise how much of a difference fans make until you experience good ones!

How have you settled into the squad during pre-season? Are there any early leadership roles or responsibilities you’ve taken on?

It’s been good, it’s a process, a lot of new players including myself however it’s been good I’ve enjoyed it, I’ve been tested and put out of my comfort zone already and that’s how you grow as a player and more importantly a person so I’m grateful. The gaffer has given me some responsibilities behind closed doors that he wants me to take hold of throughout the season.

What message do you have for Stones fans ahead of the season—on and off the pitch?
