Introduce yourself…

Tiwi Daramola, 23 years old from Falkirk. Forward at Edinburgh City FC.

Can you describe your playing style and what makes you a unique striker?

Quick and direct. I enjoy taking people on and running into space to create problems for defences.

Tiwi, are there any particular drills or exercies that have helped you improve as a striker?

Although I played as a 9 growing up, I’ve been a winger the most of my senior career so I’m still adapting to playing in a central role at Edinburgh City. For me, the manager’s knowledge is something I’ve found to be the most important factor to help me improve as a striker. Whether it’s positional information or technical drills, the information I’ve taken on in such a short time has been really beneficial & I’m looking forward to learning more from him. Movement and finishing are the areas in particular I’ve been focusing on recently in my own time to improve.

How did your time at Stenhousemuir FC’s youth academy from 2006 to 2018 shape your development as a footballer?

I really enjoyed my time at Stenhousemuir. My teams were always well coached but also had the freedom to express ourselves which i think is important for any young player to develop. We had the same coaching staff from early years until U18s so that was brilliant because it helped to build strong connection with my coaches who I still keep in touch with now. That environment gave me a good foundation to develop and enjoy my football. At 17, I then made the step up to the first team which gave me my first real taste of men’s football. My loans from Stenhousemuir helped me to get used to the physicality and intensity of the game.

Having represented Scotland at the U18 level, how has international experience impacted your approach to the game?

My international experience was massive and was the closest experience I’ve had to a full time environment. More importantly, representing Scotland is something that comes with immense pride and responsibility. It was just a handful of games so every game felt like a cup final and nothing was left behind. That extra pressure also pushed us to make sure we were always ready to go. The standards set around how you train, eat, sleep etc. was huge and that’s something which is now instilled in me. That also gave me the opportunities to play with some of the best talent in the county which was really enjoyable. It’s good to see so many of the squad going on to do so well.

You’ve had loan spells at clubs like Bo’ness Athletic FC and Clydebank FC. How did you experience your time there?

I’d say my time at Bo’ness was my most enjoyable time in football so far and will always be grateful for what they did for me. It’s a special club who went above and begin for me both within and outside of football. We achieved a lot of success but with the quality of squad could have achieved even more. The club took a chance on a lot of boys, like myself, and started to build something special. I still try get down to their games whenever I have a free weekend.
Clydebank was also really enjoyable. To be honest, I knew they were a very good side but was really surprised about the size of the club and level of support. There was a standard at the club which everyone knew had to be meet, that was also driven by the big numbers that go out to support the team home and away. Although it was just a short time, I felt a connection with the club and I’m glad to have played a part in their journey which will be a very special one come the end of the season. I’m sure they’ll be very successful in the years to come and hope to see them push through the leagues.

Can you share the circumstances that led to your recent move to Edinburgh City FC in January 2025?

I had a tough start to the season at East Kilbride where things didn’t work out as well as I’d hoped. I hadn’t been playing much so naturally grew frustrated. Towards the end of the year, I spoke with the club and we looked at options to get me playing and enjoying my football again and was placed in the transfer list. After speaking with a few clubs, I decided to sign for Clydebank. Once the transfer window opened, I had a few more clubs get in touch to discuss permanent deals but was fairly settled at Clydebank and was considering a longer deal there. Edinburgh City was never really mentioned to me at all in the weeks/ months before but I was catching up with my agent one night and he asked if Edinburgh is something I’d consider. I was eager to find out more and spoke with the assistant Kirk a few days later which was all positive. I then got a call with the gaffer and within 2 mins, I was set on getting the deal done and I’m loving every minute.

With your contract at Edinburgh City FC set to expire in May 2025, what are your plans and aspirations for the next phase of your career?

I’ve signed a long term deal with Edinburgh City so my plan is to develop as a player and help take the club as high as possible. It’s a club with a clear vision of where they want to be and I’m looking forward to playing my part in the journey ahead.

What are the team’s ambitions for the rest of the season, and how do you see yourself contributing?

To gain promotion and play League 1 football next season. I’m looking to contribute in any way I can both on and off the pitch. That was made clear from the day I signed & we’re all well aware of the standard we need to be at.

What’s one thing fans might not know about you?

Ive got a degree in criminology, and support Manchester United FC.
