INTERVIEW
Introduce yourself…
Adam Davies, striker for Caernarfon Town FC.
How do you mentally prepare for matches, and are there any routines or practices you swear by?
I don’t have any real superstitions before a game. The best way I can mentally prepare myself for a game is knowing that during the week I’ve done all the right things including team training, gym work, personal training, eating right and recovering well between sessions. If I’ve done everything right during the week when I turn up on game day I’m ready to go. If we’ve won the week before I like to try and keep the same routine.
While primarily a centre-forward, you’ve also been noted to play as a right winger. How does this versatility influence your approach to matches?
I’m a natural number 9 I’ve played a few times sporadically out wide which has given me a greater understanding of different roles and responsibilities on the pitch.
Having played for clubs like Guilsfield, Aberystwyth, and Airbus, how have these experiences shaped your approach to the game?
Ive played for a lot of clubs. When I was younger I wasn’t happy not playing so I’ve always moved to clubs where I know I will play and progress. I think that has allowed me to get to where I am today. Some players are happy to play at clubs with bigger names and be a number but I’ve always wanted to push myself to be one of the best players at the club I’ve been at.
During your spell at Aberystwyth Town, what were the biggest lessons or takeaways from playing at a club with such a rich history in the Cymru Premier?
I learnt a lot from my time at Aberystwyth although it was short. I had only played Cymru North prior to that move and it opened my eyes to the massive step up it was to play in the Cymru Premier. I ended up leaving to pursue more game time and dropped back down to the Cymru North. It made me even hungrier to succeed at that level in future.
In the 2021/22 season, you netted an impressive 28 goals in 25 appearances for Airbus UK in the Cymru North. What factors contributed to such a standout performance that season?
The 2021/22 season was just after I left Aberystwyth and I had a real determination to prove people wrong which helped. It was during lockdown so I had lots of time to develop and work on parts of my game which I needed to improve. During the summer prior to the 2021/22 season I got myself into the best shape I’ve ever been in and that’s why I was so successful.
Since joining Caernarfon Town FC in July 2023, how have you adapted to the team’s dynamics and the challenges of the Cymru Premier?
Being adaptable in football is a huge skill to have. Since joining at the start of last season there’s been a huge turnover of players and our aims have changed from avoiding relegation to now pursuing European football and being the 2nd best team in Wales. The staff have been brilliant in helping me adapt as new players come in. We have weekly analysis sessions as a team and go over individual strengths, weaknesses and attributes to work on.
Participating in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers is a significant milestone. Can you share your experiences and takeaways from competing on the European stage?
Competing in the Conference League last year is something that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, I had surgery at the start of July so missed the first qualifying round and was only fit enough to make a couple of appearances off the bench in the second qualifying round. It has made everyone at the club hungrier to achieve the same feat in future.

Reports indicated a foot injury during the UEFA Conference League Qualifiers. How has your recovery process been, and what lessons have you taken from this experience?
After a great season in 2021/22 I was unfortunate enough to break my tibia and fibula towards the end of that season and had emergency surgery and an internal ORIF. This was in place for 2/3 years but started to cause me a lot of discomfort and meant that I couldn’t train and was taking painkillers to try and get through games.
Myself and the medical team decided that the best thing was to remove the metalwork now the bone had healed. This was gutting that it coincided with the Europa Conference League qualifiers but it had to be done and was the right decision in the long term. Recovery was tough and it’s taken me until the second half of this season to feel fully match sharp. The main lesson I’ve taken from this is patience and to enjoy every game as you never know when football will come to an end.
What personal and team objectives have you set for the upcoming season?
Team objectives: we’re currently in the play offs to compete for European football for next year so the main aim is European football for next season. I think we’d also aim to break into the top 3 next season.
Personally this season I’ve scored fewer goals than last season but have contributed with a lot more assists. I think for next year my aim will be 15+ goals and 10+ assist.
