Interview:
Introduce yourself…
My name is John Owen, 32 years old father of one who’s currently living in Bala (North Wales).
How would you describe your personality in the dressing room-more of a joker, a motivator, or someone who leads by example?
I would say I try to lead by example on the field. Relaxed in the changing room which I think naturally happens as your become a senior member in the changing room. I try to maintain a high standard in everything I do and would never ask anyone to do anything I’m not willing or haven’t done myself.
John, do you think your playing style reflects your personality off the pitch?
I do, I try to play with a relaxed attitude which I hope relaxes others around me but also have an aggressive streak depending on how the game is going.
Known for your adaptability, you’ve played as a winger and central striker. Which position do you feel most effective in, and why?
I enjoyed playing on the wing as it gave me freedom to express myself as a youngster. When I turned 30 I felt more comfortable playing as a striker as it gave me an opportunity to be involved in play a little more. Now at 32 I have filled in at centre back the last 5 games and I’ve really enjoyed it, getting on the ball and having the game in front of me has been really refreshing.
